3. Patho-anthropology - 病理人類学
ある地域や集団に、特異的あるいは高頻度に見いだされる疾病の人類学的背景を調べています。特に、ウイルスという身近（？）な寄生体が関与している疾病に興味を持っており、宿主と病原体の両方からのアプローチを試みています。このような寄生体を対象とすることによって、これまでの人類学とはひと味違った研究を目指しています。具体的には、Epstein-Barrウイルスが関与している細胞増殖疾患である上咽頭癌・末梢Ｔリンパ腫におけるウイルスの系統と動態、宿主の生物学的背景を調べています。Papillomaウイルス関連疾患では子宮頚癌を扱います。また、おサルでもウイルス感染を調べ、系統や来歴の検討をしています。
