(The molecular mechanism of prestin, the cochlear amplifier)
Kazuaki Homma, PhD(Assistant Professor of Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University)
Prestin is a voltage-dependent membrane protein that confers electromotility on the cochlear outer hair cells, which is essential for normal hearing. Despite intense studies since its discovery in 2000, the voltage-driven motor mechanism of prestin remains largely elusive. In this seminar, attendees will learn the status quo and prospects of prestin research.
