Welcome Message from the Local Organizing Committee

It is our great pleasure to welcome you all to Japan for the 2014 ICN / JSCPB to be held July 28 to August 1, 2014, in Sapporo. The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for this meeting is mainly formed by members of the Japanese Association of Neuroethologists (JAN). JAN was formed when the very first ICN meeting was held in Tokyo in 1986, and since that time has been actively contributing to the development of neuroethology research in Japan. Most of the LOC members were among the young Japanese attendants of the first ICN, which strongly motivated us to study neuroethology further. And now we are here to organize the ICN to serve you.

This is the first ICN in the Asian/Oceanian countries since the inaugural ICN in Tokyo in 1986. We therefore expect that the 2014 ICN / JSCPB will provide an excellent opportunity for many neuroethologists in the Asian/Oceanian countries who have not had a chance to attend the ICN.

Sapporo is a wonderful place for neuroethologists, and for visitors in general. The top page photos illustrate attractive animals in Hokkaido district. The Japanese Red-Crowned Cranes (Grus japonensis) illustrated in the logo are resident in the eastern Hokkaido and represent one of the Japanese beauties. Summer in Sapporo, with its moderate climate, is especially appealing for tourists. You will enjoy the Pilsner-type beer (large-scale beer gardens in Odori Park, called the Sapporo Summer Festival), music (Sapporo City Jazz for jazz lovers, and Pacific Music Festival for the classical music lovers), and a wide variety of sea food, besides good science!

We hope that many of you will visit Sapporo for this upcoming congress July 28 to August 1, 2014, to create and renew friendships as well as to promote and broaden research in neuroethology.
