PL-1. Where Have We Been and Where Are We Going?

Stephanie Seminara1

1Reproductive Endocrine Unit and Harvard Reproductive Sciences Center, Department of Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital, BHX 505, 55 Fruit St, Boston, MA 02114

This discussion will review critical findings in the emergence of kisspeptin as an indespensible modulator of GnRH secretion and how this neuropeptide may shape future progress in understanding reproductive biology.

PL-2. Kisspeptin neurobiology; the GnRH neuron and beyond.

Allan E. Herbison1

1Centre for Neuroendocrinology, University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand

This lecture will provide a brief overview of the two main kisspeptin neuron populations in the rostral preoptic area and arcuate nucleus and examine their roles within the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) neuronal network to control fertility. Emphasis will be placed on what we do not know about these kisspeptin populations. The growing awareness of roles for kisspeptin and Gpr54 outside this network will also be addressed.
