私はこのたび、年に一度開かれるNIH主催のミーティングに参加させていただきました。NIHの２７ある各部門が一同に会し、口頭およびポスターセッションがおこなわれました。現地では向山先生の案内のもと、研究所内をまわり、Milgram先生から全体的な研究所の説明をうけました。ミーティングはNeuroscience分野は少なかったものの、あらゆる分野の報告を臨床と基礎研究の両面から聞くことができ、熱い議論が繰り広げられました。Mishkin研究室、Nakazawa研究室などを訪問させていただき、自分の研究内容を発表しディスカッションする機会に恵まれました。普段とはまったく別の環境でのディスカッションは新たな見解や考えに触れるよい機会になり、とても刺激になりました。大統領選の最中の訪問ということで、先生方と時事会話でも盛り上がりながら、貴重な経験をすることができました。
