I’m Tetsuya Higashiyama, and I’m honored to announce my appointment as the Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences for 2024. Biology has made incredible strides, with new research trends emerging thanks to recent technological breakthroughs. Researchers now have various ways to study biological phenomena, allowing for multifaceted research. This emphasizes the importance of broad perspectives and networking among researchers, alongside our high expertise.
Our department’s strength lies in our comprehensive coverage of biology, with around 100 supervising professors. We cover a wide range of biological topics and technologies, spanning from molecular to global scales and across various timeframes and species, as well as biological information science. We’re also strengthened by the presence of many talented young students and postdocs from around the world.
Starting in 2024, we’ll boost face-to-face networking within our large department. We anticipate further increases in diversity, internationality, and interdisciplinarity, building upon our ongoing reforms. Expect exciting research topics and talented researchers from our department, shaping the future of biology.
