The 5th global COE retreat was held at Yatsugatake Royal Hotel, Hokuto, Yamanashi on March 3rd to 4th. We had over 420 participants who were the members from thirteen labs of the graduate school of medicine, ten labs of the graduate school of science, six labs of the institute of molecular and cellular biosciences and also other research assistants of the graduate school of science and invited foreign researchers. They presented their research progress and discussed it with other participants.

This retreat began with the lecture by Dr. Mark Bartlam from Nankai University and then had oral sessions and over 230 poster presentations. Especially in this year, we promoted the interaction with foreign researchers and invited speakers from UCSF, which is our partner university of GCOE International exchange program, Nankai University, Technische Universitaet Muenchen, Salk Institute, and Harvard University. On the 2nd day, the best poster presenters received the poster awards and gave short-talks. For the two days, we had valuable opportunities to discuss our research interests and exchange with researchers whose research backgrounds were widely distinct from one another.
