The Human Colonization of the Americas: An Overview of the Archaeological Evidence

The timing of human entrance into the Americas has been a topic of debate that dates back to the late 19th century. Until recently, the earliest sites known in the Americas were from the Clovis culture, dated from the Early Holocene. However, in the last decades, sites much older than Clovis have been described in the Americas, pinpointing the need for a reassessment of the traditional models dealing with the initial colonization of the continent. This talk will present archaeological data that points to an early peoplement of the Americas and the implications of such data for the currently accepted models of colonization.
